16 August 2016, Kuala Lumpur – Double A, the leading copy paper manufacturer collaborates with the Malaysian Nature Society in an effort to educate the public on deforestation issues and the importance of sustainable consumption in hopes of preserving the environment. The beginning of this collaboration starts with a week long campaign through the 1Dream1Tree (ODOT) project and The Unfortunate Tales of a Treeless World that will be exhibited from 15-21 August at Mid Valley Megamall.

Since the launch of the 1Dream1Tree initiative, Double A has donated over 80,000 trees to be planted to date. The campaign aims to draw attention to current environmental issues while advocating environmental conservation and educating Malaysians on sustainable production and consumption. This initiative introduces the world into Double A’s revolutionary paper manufacturing method with its Paper Tree from KHAN-NA, a unique agro-forestry practice that utilises vacant space between rice fields in Thailand owned by local farmers who are provided additional income when they sell the sustainable fibre-source back to Double A. By creating a sustainable ecosystem around their business, Double A has not only managed to tackle environmental issues but also create a prosperous social and economic environment.

As the oldest nature conservation society in Malaysia, MNS has pioneered the conservation of Malaysia’s natural heritage and rich biological diversity over the last seven decades through habitat environmental education. Having evolved from a core group of society volunteers, MNS has grown exponentially to make a positive impact on the environment in Malaysia.

One of MNS’ environmental education avenues resulted in the creatively executed Unfortunate Tales of a Treeless World campaign. The innovative awareness movement centers on deforestation and the effects of living in a treeless world via classic fairytale stories that have been turned into unfortunate tales. By doing so, the campaign instantaneously appeals and impacts all generations as deforestation becomes a more relatable subject for discussion.

“The threat of deforestation is too great to ignore and thus, we are delighted that our Unfortunate Tales of A Treeless World campaign has been able to get the reach required to raise awareness among the general public. By sharing the same vision as Double A’s 1Dream1Tree initiative, we have managed to carve a unique collaboration around educating people to be more aware of the effects of deforestation and encourage self-awareness so as to reduce our own individual carbon footprint,” said the president of Malaysian Nature Society (MNS), Mr. Henry Goh.

Till September, each ream of Double A 80 gsm paper will have a unique QR code on the packaging, which, when scanned, takes the user to a microsite and will activate the planting of a Double A Paper-Tree. Once planted, the user will be notified on the GPS coordinates of where their tree is planted and details of the farmer caring for their tree via e-mail. This is part of Double A’s 1Dream1Tree initiative in encouraging Malaysians to contribute to preserving natural forests.
