FAQ
Double A
By using proprietary Paper-Tree, the fast growing trees that are developed for making Double A paper and cultivating them on unused strips of land along farmers’ rice paddies, we preserve the biodiversity of mature forests.
Double A does not consider waste as waste, but as a sustainable source of renewable energy to power our mill. All waste from the pulping process is channeled to the power plants for biomass electricity generation, which in turn fuels the mill and supplies energy to nearby communities.
The 35 million cubic meter giant manmade reservoir was built to function as a catchment area to collect rain water runoff that helps prevent floods and also provide for Double A mills’ water requirements.
We leverage technology to minimize our water consumption throughout the production process. To make the best use of resources, we use our recycled water to irrigate the trees around the mill. .
Double A uses an Elementary Chlorine Free (ECF) bleaching process that is chlorine gas free. This technology effectively reduces toxic by-products from the bleaching process, thus minimizing chlorine related health hazards.
Every ream of Double A paper provides an additional income to Thai farming communities. For more than a decade, Double A has been producing paper and at the same time improving the lives of farmers and local communities by the best sustainable method; providing them with occupational opportunities to earn additional income and improve their standards of living.
In addition to receiving income from Paper-Tree cultivation through the KHAN-NA program, farmers also earn extra by cutting mature trees and transporting logs to the Double A mill. In 2011, this effort was awarded the Asian CSR Award for Poverty Alleviation.
Double A started a school funding program in 2007; Paper-Tree saplings were distributed to a number of needy schools in Thailand. After three to four years, the participating schools sell the trees back to Double A for a guaranteed return. To date, Double A has given tree saplings to almost 8,000 schools.
When you partner with Double A, you get premium paper and a premium experience. We strive for superior paper quality throughout our entire manufacturing process, starting with the Paper-Tree, which were selected from 2,500 specimens to produce the best pulp and reduce our carbon footprint.
Every ream of Double A paper starts from a single seed. We closely monitor the manufacturing process each step of the way for a supremely planet friendly process—from supporting to grow the Paper-Tree, to cultivating them through Thai farmers in the spaces between their fields, to the careful conservation we employ in our electricity and water use.
So you get excellent quality paper that has an excellent environmental record too. Better paper. Better world.
- Multipurpose/Dual-Purpose Paper: Plays very well with copiers or printers. Brighter than copy paper, it also produces sharper prints.
- Copy Paper: If you’re making copies for in-house use, this cost-effective and lightweight paper does the trick.
- Color Copy Paper: Use this for eye-catching presentations.
- Inkjet Paper: Use only this type of paper for inkjet printers since it’s engineered for water- based inks. Is has a higher quality than multipurpose paper.
- Laser Paper: Designed with a smoother surface just for laser printers—so do not use it on inkjet, as the ink will run!
Do you want to go extra big and bold? Do you need to adhere to certain guidelines? Paper comes in a range of sizes. And these sizes are available under Double A brand:
- A3, A4, A5, A11, B4, B5, F4, F11
- Legal size: 8 ½” x 14”
- Ledger size: 11” x 17”
The paper’s surface affects how it will “take” the ink, so the smoother the better. Look for a smooth paper. Or if your paper isn’t as smooth as you’d like, choose the Lighter/Darker setting on your printer to create a similar density level to a smoother paper.
Recycled paper quality has improved significantly in the time since it was first introduced. It is a high quality paper, but you’ll still sometimes run into imperfections in the document. So we wouldn’t recommend using this paper for your most important documents.
Brightness does not equal whiteness. Whiteness denotes the shade (common descriptors are balanced white, warm white, or blue white), whereas brightness refers to how much light the paper reflects. Paper is generally assigned a brightness number from 0 – 100, with 100 the brightest. However, in paper making process, the optical brightening agents (OBAs) are added to enhance paper brightness. The OBAs is more reflected light from the paper surface, resulting to the brightness measurements is excess of 100. The standard is 92, but we’d recommend at least a 96 for presentation quality. A low brightness won’t have sharp contrast and the whites will look more off white, where the blacks won’t be as deep and dark. And for Double A, all paper in our products range contains minimum brightness at 101.
Opacity measures how much light passes through the paper. Complete opacity is 100%, and paper is described as low-, medium-, or high-opacity. Premium paper has higher opacity, so you can’t see through to the other side. This is important for two-sided printing.
Weight refers to thickness, and thickness connotes premium quality. Typically, office paper weighs between 70 – 120 gsm. For better images, use a heavier paper for higher color saturation.
- 70 - 75 gsm. – Copy paper for everyday use
- 80 - 90 gsm. – Multipurpose paper for business letterheads, stationery and double-sided printing.
- 100 - 120 gsm. – Thicker paper for brochures and professional presentations
